Concept
30 years of breakthroughs in HIV understanding and treatment condensed into a 60-second animation combining 2D, 3D and cel-animation techniques.
Styleframes
‘Shining a light’ on HIV was used as a visual metaphor.
Each scene had an interactive source of light to bring each achievement into focus. Several colour palettes were explored, ending in a minimalist grey and red.
Pencil Sketches
Each scene was first explored with pencil sketches, as it was important to capture the essence of each milestone in a glance. This was also an opportunity to explore different ways in which light could affect each scene.
Animation
We wanted to preserve a flat 2D style, but both 3D animation and frame-by-frame animation was used to help bring the scenes to life.
